The following relates the Austrian ambassador’s visit to the admiral. On the fifth day of the month, a Saturday, the ambassador visited his excellency the admiral pasha. The admiral dispatched his caique powered with seven pairs of oars to the western gate pier. The ambassador embarked on the caique and around four o’clock, the caique docked at the shipyard pavilion. As the ambassador disembarked, holders of large fiefs wearing sea-colored furs, their attendants, and the aghas of the kapudan pasha, all wearing sable fur ceremonial cloaks, were disposed in order from the pier to the entry of the reception room. The aghas of the inner court also stood in order starting from the rear gate.
After the ambassador came and sat down on the stool arranged for him in front of the pavilion door, his highness, the prosperous admiral pasha, came inside wearing a sable fur on a green ceremonial cloak, upon which the ambassador rose to his feet and they all sat down. Sweets and coffee were served. Afterwards, the ambassador was raised from the stool (and offered another seat), followed by the performance of vocalists and musicians. Thereafter, at half past six, a meal was served. The admiral, the chief of the gatekeepers, and the warden of the shipyards sat down [together]. After the meal, the vocalists and musicians performed again. Next, the ambassador, accompanied by the chief of the gatekeepers, went to take a look at the shipyard and galleons. Then, he came back by caique and sat down. Following yet another - 1 - performance of the vocalists, sherbet and frankincense were served and the ambassador’s gifts were presented as recorded below.
