Decree to the Vizier of Bosnia× Osman Pasha×: General Graf von Virmont×—may God end his days propitiously—who came to my gate that is the center of state as grand ambassador from the Roman emperor×, the paragon of the great commanders of the community of Messiah, sent a petition to my threshold of felicity [about the following matter]:

It is written and recorded in the imperial letter of agreement (ʿahdnāme-i ḥumāyūn) that it shall be lawful to release captives, who are found in possession of a variety of people, in an appropriate way in return for the payment of a potential price that is acceptable and reasonable; in case no agreement is reached with the owner of a captive and a disagreement occurs, the notables [at a given location] shall intermediate between the two parties.

Accordingly, there are some captives from among the subjects of the aforesaid Roman emperor× in and around Bosnia× in the possession of some people. [The ambassador] reported that there are difficulties in liberating the captives due to demands of unreasonable prices and transgressions in violation of the imperial letter of agreement. [The ambassador×] requested my most noble order that you, the aforesaid vizier×, should take care of the liberation of the captives in return for a reasonable price as per the imperial letter of agreement and you shall forbid and repel the disputes of those who breach the limit of moderation in the most just way.

You are the aforesaid vizier×! As it is unambiguously stated in the imperial letter of agreement, you shall take care of to the liberation of the captives who are found in the possession of the people in the province of Bosnia× in return for a reasonable price; you shall forbid the disputes of those who breach the limit of moderation in the most just way. My illustrious edict has been issued for you to pay, in this way, utmost attention to the emancipation of the captives found around the frontiers of both sides. So have I× commanded!
