Decree to the agha of the imperial court janissaries and the chief gardener agha: The translator of General [Damian Hugo] Count of Virmont—may God end his days propitiously—who is currently at my gate that is the center of state, as grand ambassador from the Roman emperor, the paragon of the great commanders of the community of Messiah; this translator named and the people of [the grand ambassador] purchased with [his own] money for their own consumption two thousand medres of wine—each medre being equal to ten vuḳiyye—from the shores, piers, and islands close to Istanbul. About the value of medre, see the footnote in the first order issued about the same topic. My illustrious edict has been issued that as the wine is being transported to his residence, from now on, no money shall be demanded by superintendents and officers under the name of customs duty, tribute, favors, outlay, or under other pretexts. No one shall hinder its transportation. Sı have I I commanded! July 27 to August 6, 1719
