To the Catholic priests and monks (living in the Ottoman Empire): The reason for the issuance of this document is as follows: Recently, theambassador, who is currently returning from Istanbul with the imperial permission, submitted a petition to the imperial court. An imperial decree (ahdnāme-i hümāyūn) was handed to him, ordering that no one shall interfere with his residences, whether they arrive by land or sea, when they settle in their homes and when they repair their houses, no one shall intrude upon them. Furthermore, when they perform their rituals and worship according to the Catholic practice, neither governors, judges, nor other officials shall interfere with them.

That letter of agreement has been registered in the court registers, and accordingly, this letter has been written and dispatched. Upon receiving this document, it is necessary to act according to the provisions of the imperial decree given to the aforementioned ambassador and to show neither approval nor permission for any actions contrary to it.
