This is the imperial letter sent by the imperial majesty to the ceaser of Austria through his grand ambassador: Laudable pride of the great commanders of Christendom, the elite of illustrious magnates in the community of the Messiah, arbiter of the universal affairs of the [community of] Nazarene, possessor of the lineage of majesty and glory, possessor of manifestation of splendor and reverence, the Roman emperor, our friend Leopold—may God end his days propitiously on the right path and guide him to the path of righteousness and good deed. May it be known as my sublime sultanic signature arrives: With the exalted care of God, the Absolute Bestower, He who is exalted and sublime, and with the lofty guidance of the pride of both worlds, our prophet, the beloved of God, Muhammad Mustafa, peace be upon him, there has been established a peace and concord between you and our heavenly-founded and firmly-rooted court which is the sanctuary of the sovereigns of the age and the refuge of the high-standing kings. In order to reinforce this peace and concord, and to solidify and strengthen the goals of mutual amity and accord, your confidential counselor, distinguished and select grand ambassador, paragon of the great commanders of the community of the Messiah, Graf Wolfgang [IV] of Oettingen-Wallerstein, has arrived in the protected city of Constantinople, the seat of the exalted sultanate of the Ottomans and the threshold of the world-ruling sovereignty, a home of happiness. [When the ambassador arrived here,] in accordance with the ancient customs of our noble and illustrious forefathers and the continuous traditions of our felicitous ancestors, permission from his imperial majesty and our gracious approval were granted, for [the ambassador] to bow down to the ground in front of our honored throne and present the gifts and compliments, together with your letter of friendship and confirmation of peace, that he was tasked to deliver to our fortunate stirrup. That letter is the requirement of the established and reinforced friendship and good neighborly relations between us. After fulfilling his duties as before, in accordance with the ancient custom, and following the accustomed practices of the Alexander-like dynasty of the Ottomans and their joyful and properly structured traditions, he presented to our glorious and powerful imperial court the imperial letter, its translation that showcases the letter's sincere affection, and his statements confirming friendship. All this happened through the intermediation of the most noble vizier, illustrious field marshal, orderer of the world, arranger of the order of mankind, prudent manager of the affairs of the community with decisive reasoning, consummator of the important affairs of mankind with proper judgment, arranger of the pillars of prosperity and felicity, edifice of the pillars of felicity and glory, completer of the honor of the great sultanate, organizer of the ranks of the greatest caliphate, invested with the arrays of favors from the supreme Lord, my praiseworthy and desired grand vizier and my absolute representative in matters of knowledge, Hüseyin Pasha —may God Almighty make his glory lasting. The words of friendship relating to the consolidation of the foundations of peace and order, as well as the messages regarding the neighborly conduct based on the preservation of peaceful relations, have been grasped by our royal knowledge in the most complete and all-encompassing manner. Your sincerity and affection have been reciprocated from the side of the exalted sultanate as well. The signs of truthfulness and loyalty have become apparent on your part. As long as the fruits of the renewed friendship with our eternal state are clearly demonstrated as it deserves, the proper observance and maintenance of mutual friendship and neighborly relations that occured both during times of farewell or and the signing of the peace, particularly with you, our companion who is a neighbor to our well-protected domains, and the pride of kings and the praised one in conduct as the Roman emperor, will be upheld. This is in accordance with the noble and unchanging practice of our esteemed ancestors and the admirable, well-established and immutable traits of our exalted predecessors. In this regard, from our auspicious, fortunate imperial side, everything will be observed in the best way as before, and the requirements of the bond of firm friendship and the mutual strong covenant will be fully safeguarded." And your aforementioned envoy has completed and carried out the duties of the embassy and the necessary formalities with the utmost propriety and has requested our imperial permission for his return and departure. Therefore, after being honored and proud of having attended the lofty imperial court and our royal presence with the customary ceremonies of our sultanate, the matters of friendship and the firmness of the peace that was established have been conveyed and directed to your side with our glorious imperial letter. Upon arrival [of your ambassador], after reading our imperial letter and understanding its content, which demonstrates the signs of sincerity and expresses the principles of peace, it is imperial expectation that the requirements of friendship and mutual agreement, as well as the rules of the covenant and treaty, will also be observed on your side in the most beautiful and perfect manner, as is our imperial expectation. And peace be upon those who obey God. The first third of the month of Rebiülahir, year 1112.
