Abstract
In this supplementary letter Oettingen-Wallerstein forwards the plea of a merchant named Mommars from Constantinople to the emperor, who had previously already sent his request via Cardinal Kollonitsch.;
Oettingen-Wallerstein states he is not versed in commercial matters but still expects orders from Vienna regarding commerce and trade so he thought this was a good way to start, since he thinkgs highly of the merchant Mommars.;
Especially since the merchant delivered the copy of a trade agreement the Netherlands concluded with the Ottomans in 1680 not yet known to Vienna, which was attached to this letter, the grand ambassador trusted the merchant and thought the copy will be useful for future negotiations regarding trade.;
Lastly, an English merchant approached Oettingen-Wallerstein and wanted to sell a large piece of ambergris to him which was allegedly originally supposed to be a gift from the sultan to the emperor, but the Ottomans could not agree on a price. The grand ambassador sent a sample and inquired about potential interest in buying it.
