Abstract
Oettingen-Wallerstein reports on the entry parade of the Polish-Lithuanian embassy and states his astonishment about the accomodating attitude of the Ottomans suddenly allowing things during the parades they never allowed before such as flying flags with crosses. However, the Polish embassy got into a dispute with the Ottomans over showing blank sabers while entering the city, which lead to a tense audience with the grand vizier where no gifts were presented. The grand ambassador also reports that he was invited by the grand vizier to watch the parade and described his way there via ships.; The Habsburg grand ambassador finally decided to send gifts to another Ottoman official and reports that the restauration of the included clock didn't work yet he found another solution to safe face.; Oettingen-Wallerstein reports the birth of a daughter to the sultan and wonders whether the mother will still receive the planned honours for birthing a son.; The grand ambassador was invited by the grand vizier to join him for a day of entertainment and feasting at his palace, joined by the English and Dutch ambassadors, where Oettingen-Wallerstein managed to discuss a few topics with the grand vizier.; Firstly Oettingen-Wallerstein reports to have talked about the prisoner issue on grounds of the clauses of the treaty of Karlowitz and received the response that the Ottomans will review the matter with the reis ül-küttab and promised to at least let go of the prisoners considered to be 'German'. The grand ambassador protested this and expects success but has preventively bribed several prison scribes to declare more prisoners as 'German'.; On the same issue Oettingen-Wallerstein once again requests much more additional funding, claiming the number of prisoners to be freed to still slowly increase and that the Ottomans demand very high ransoms.; Oettingen-Wallerstein also brought up the Patriarch of Antioch and was immediately met with rejection, since the patriarch had allegedly caused much unrest, and after trying to defend the case, the grand vizier promised to review the arguments made and Oettingen-Wallerstein left to not bother the vizier any longer.; On the way back to the ships Oettingen-Wallerstein once again discussed the border dispute around Novi Grad with Râmî Mehmed Paşa and got the same answers as before and therefore hoped to resolve the issue in Vienna instead. The grand ambassador expresses his hopes to be ready to leave for home in about a month.; Oettingen-Wallerstein reports to have presented horses and carriages to the sultan, who was pleased and gifted the presents to his mother.; Among the embassy was a defector trying to flee debt in the Habsburg lands according to the grand ambassador and Oettingen-Wallerstein explains that he cannot get any information on his whereabouts from the Ottomans, suspecting them to hide him. As the grand ambassador has heard of converts defecting from the Ottoman embassy in Vienna he requests instructions on how to deal with the issue. During the visit of the Polish-Lithuanian ambassador said envoy explains he also had an aspiring defector among his retinue on the way and executed him on the way, which Oettingen-Wallerstein deems only possible without repercussions due to the Ottomans lack of authority in the periphery.; Reporting that the Polish embassy did not provide full catering during his visit, Oettingen-Wallerstein explains he will safe money by also providing less for visitors. The Polish-Lithuanian ambassador also reported about the French ambassador Charles de Ferriol immediately requesting a visit after the entry parade and demanding primacy in rank over the Habsburgs, wherein the Polish stayed loyal to the Habsburgs and rejected the French.; A capuchin priest trying to deliver gifts and messages to the Safavid sultan hoseyn of Persia requested passports from both the French and Habsburg ambassadors to travel on and was rejected since the Ottomans mistrusted the whole endeavour.; Oettingen-Wallerstein closes the letter with an amendment made a few days after the rest of the letter was written in which he explains that the Ottomans finally issued a passport to the priest on their own and reports on differences between his audience with the sultan and the Polish-Lithuanian ambassador's.
