Abstract
Oettingen-Wallerstein reports to have sent the gifts for the reis ül-küttab, the defterdar and the grand vizier's kahya to their designated recipients since he got no opportunity to visit them yet and contemplates on sending gifts to another official. The grand ambassador also describes the gifts, mostly clocks and golden or silver bowls, and complains about the state of the clocks suggesting to demand refunds back in Vienna.; Since Oettingen-Wallerstein greatly desired to meet with the reis ül-küttab Râmî Mehmed Paşa he sent his interpreter to preemptively discuss some issues, including a patriarch. The grand ambassador reports that Râmî Mehmed Paşa examined the request and will try to help but can not bring the issue before the grand vizier since there's no chance of success due to the bad standing of said patriarch.; While the European diplomats in Constantinople exchange greetings for Easter, the French ambassador Charles de Ferriol sent a Jesuit to Oettingen-Wallerstein to insinuate slowly cooperating and eventually meeting, promising to help with the Christian prisoners and slaves. Oettingen-Wallerstein rejected the offer on grounds of a dispute about the rank as well as being sceptical about the secretive conduct of the French.; The grand ambassador expresses his hopes that 180 former soldiers and subjects of the emperor held as galley slaves could be freed soon since they have been moved from ships designated to leave the city following a request made by Oettingen-Wallerstein, though he wonders how to pay for them as he just had to take out another loan.; Oettingen-Wallerstein also states that a sultana is expected to give birth soon and be declared first consort if she births a son to the sultan, while her oldest son is about to be circumsized.; The letter finishes with the grand ambassador requesting the emperor to pay money to his wife and children to pay for his debts and their aliment.
