Abstract
Oettingen-Wallerstein reports the grand embassies arrival in Küçükçekmece, where they were received by Ottoman officials to rest and plan their entry parade into Constantinople.;
The grand ambassador states that setting a date for the audiences with the sultan and grand vizier was not easy due to the Ottomans wanting to combine observing the upcomming Ramadan and paying the janissaries' salary during the audience, as was custom, while the janissary corps was already defiant and close to being rebellious.;
Oettingen-Wallerstein describes in great detail how his grand embassy approached and entered Constantinople and paraded through the streets.;
On the day of his audience with the grand vizier, the grand ambassador was brought over the Golden Horn with ships and lodged in a palace inhabited by Constantine Ducas, deposed prince of Moldavia. The audience with the grand vizier itself is described relatively briefly with Oettingen-Wallerstein focusing on the conduct regarding honour and rank between the two, as well as the reception of gifts and how the conversation was translated by Alexandros Mavrokordatos.;
Oettingen-Wallerstein then reports about the day in the Topkapı Sarayı, on which he was brought to the palace the same way as the day before with a stop at the residence of the Moldavian prince. Entering the palace was done according to the established custom with janissaries getting paid and feasting while the grand ambassador was having a banquet in the divan.;
The description of the audience is again brief and focuses on the splendour of the room and the sultan's clothing. According to Oettingen-Wallerstein the Sultan was pleased with the gifts brought before him and he will distribute the presents for his mother and his consorts and wives himself.;
All the remaining presents will be conveyed soon and the grand ambassador announces to send a report about the costs to Vienna.
