Abstract
Oettingen-Wallerstein reports on the greetings he received from the other European envoys after arriving in Constantinople and his audiences with the sultan and grand vezier.;
After the English ambassador made the first visit a conflict arose with the French envoy because of a supposed violation of protocol regarding the ranks of the European royalty. Oettingen-Wallerstein, not wanting to involve himself in the rank dispute, consulted with the English ambassador but Charles de Ferriol insisted on his primacy and refused any effort to mend relations.;
Oettingen-Wallerstein reports more details on the diplomatic faux pas made by Ferriol with his saber. He allegedly ignored warnings and demands right before entering the audience chamber to the sultan and was subjected to soldiers searching his clothes for more arms, even resulting in violently pushing the French delegates from the room. In response the French threw off the gifted caftans and took the sultan's presents with them again, leading to an ongoing dispute.;
Finally Oettingen-Wallerstein reports on the state of further visits from other envoys and preemptively justifies having to reject the Ragusan envoy multiple times due to a lack of time and opportunity.
