Decree to the governor viziers, military commanders, sanjakbeys, judges, tax collectors, aides-de-camp of janissaries, janissary guards, harbormasters, provincial notables, and other functionaries along the route from Istanbul× to Jerusalem× by land and sea:
The aforementioned ambassador× has submitted a petition to my felicitous court, informing that an Austrian noble who came along with him [to the Ottoman capital], [? Graf Johann Gottfried Wilhelm Sauer of Ankenstein (Anckenstein)]Graf Johann Gottfried Wilhelm Sauer of Ankenstein (Anckenstein) ×, will be traveling to Jerusalem× to visit the Christian pilgrimage sites.
During their journey to and from [Jerusalem], wherever he and his two attendants enter any of your jurisdictions, they are to be provided with suitable accommodations. Any necessary provisions should be supplied to them at the current market price. During their travels and at rest stops, [? ], taxcollectors, superintendants, and others should not be allowed to harass or burden them with any demands for customs duties, levies, or other taxes after this order has been issued. Moreover, during their journey to and from here, when they pass through places considered dangerous and unsafe, a sufficient number of men should be assigned to ensure their complete security and safety, with each of you passing them on safely to the next jurisdiction. This is the decree that the aforementioned ambassador has requested from my imperial court, and it is my command that it be carried out as described. So is the decree. 28 June–7 July 1700
