Kurtz arrived in Belgrade on the 23rd of September. During his journey, he saw the troops of Sarhoş Ibrahim Pasha of Bosnia, who was preparing to support Gábor Bethlen under the command of Grand Vizier Mere Hüseyn Pasha. In Constantinople, this grand vizier was replaced by Kemankeş Ali Pasha and a new sultan, Murad IV, was also enthroned on the 10th of September. For both, he requests new credentional letters from Vienna. The pasha of Buda is reminded of his promise not to support Gábor Bethlen. Kurtz offers him 25,000 thalers and an additional 4,000 thalers to his kihaya. He urges more money to be sent to pay off the dignitaries in Constantinople. He asks for news of the Holy Roman Empire and of Gábor Bethlen. PS. Resident Sebastien Lustrier has served well so far.
