      <abstract>
        <p>In a letter to Rudolf II, Sokollu Mehmed Pasha condemned repeated breaches of the
               peace by Habsburg troops along the Ottoman frontiers, detailing numerous raids and
               atrocities committed against Muslim subjects. Sokollu Mehmed Pasha urged Rudolf II to
               uphold the existing treaty and demanded the withdrawal of Habsburg troops from
               disputed fortresses and the cessation of hostilities. He emphasised the need to
               fulfil tax obligations promptly in order to strengthen mutual peace and friendship.
               The letter underlines the escalating tensions caused by Habsburg incursions and
               highlights the Ottoman efforts to defend their territories, urging Rudolf II to
               prevent further violations that jeopardise stability and endanger the welfare of the
               subjects of both empires.</p>
