Abstract
Sokollu Mehmed Pasha’s letter to Emperor Maximilian addresses recent breaches of peace and mutual agreements between the Ottoman Empire and the Habsburgs. He criticizes the acceptance of Ottoman subjects and the military actions of Gáspár Bekes and Jánoš Balass in Transylvania. Sokollu Mehmed Pasha expresses the Ottoman sultans commitment to peace, despite his inclination towards military campaigns, and calls for the respect of treaties and the release of prisoners. The letter demands respect for mutual agreements, citing incidents of ransom disputes and emphasizing the consequences of betraying trust. It calls for diplomatic efforts to resolve ongoing disputes and maintain tranquility across borders, stressing the importance of upholding agreements for stability and mutual respect.
