The emperor and king of the imperial provinces and of the Roman, Czech×, and German× provinces, his excellency Maximilian× – may his days end propitiously. After conveying our friendship to you, the reason for writing this genuine letter is as follows: we have received your letter that expresses your friendship to the fortunate and felicitous sultan×, who is the lord of the fortunate conjunction. All the contents of your letter have been accepted. As a sign of our friendship, we have interpreted your letter most moderately and appropriately and presented it to the sultan’s× throne’s foot with the utmost respect. Similarly, we have made every effort to receive the imperial letter from our esteemed sultan× – the lord of the fortunate conjunction and ruler of the earth – and to send it to you. Those who have previously sought friendship with the felicitous court and achieved their goal have endured considerable difficulties and exerted their utmost efforts to strengthen this friendship. Considering this: if you also demonstrate a favorable effort in the way that other rulers have done to establish friendship, it is hoped that all well-wishers working for friendship will find their endeavors facilitated. It is anticipated that mutual sincere friendship will soon replace all conflicts and irritating affairs, allowing joyful blossoms to flourish among friends and bringing cheer to all places.
