Sinem Erdoğan İşkorkutan holds a PhD from Boğaziçi University (2017) and she is a member of the Sabancı University Foundation Development Program. Her research focuses on the history of early modern visual culture and the cultural history of the Ottoman Empire.

The QhoD and Ministerratsprotokolle 1848–1918 projects invite you to a book talk with Christopher Ohge, Senior Lecturer in Digital Approaches to Literature at the Institute of English Studies and Digital Humanities Research Hub at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, about his new book: On Monday, March 27, 2023 at 6 pm.

Christopher Ohge’s research focuses on textual scholarship, computation, and creative and critical methods for studying book history and literary texts. In addition to various digital editions, Dr Ohge does experiment with various digital methods to facilitate better access to, and knowledge of, cultural heritage, including network analysis, data analysis, and digital curation. He will be discussing his short book, Publishing Scholarly Editions: Archives, Computing, and Experience (Cambridge University Press, 2021), which shows some of those experiments.

As the next QhoD book talk, QhoD proudly announces that Gábor Ágoston will be talking about his new book, The Last Muslim Conquest: The Ottoman Empire and Its Wars in Europe. (Princeton: Princeton University Press, 2021), on September 21, 2022 at 18:15 CET.

Born and educated in Hungary, Gábor Ágoston is a Professor of History at Georgetown University, where he teaches courses on Ottoman and Middle Eastern history, the Balkans, and the Black Sea. He is the author of The Last Muslim Conquest: The Ottoman Empire and Its Wars in Europe (Princeton UP, 2021) and Guns for the Sultan: Military Power and the Weapons Industry in the Ottoman Empire (Cambridge UP, 2005). In addition to four Hungarian-language books, he has published three volumes of collected studies in Turkish and more than a hundred scholarly articles and book chapters in English, Hungarian, and Turkish on Ottoman, Habsburg, and Hungarian warfare, frontiers, diplomacy, and espionage. He is also the co-author of the first English-language Encyclopedia of the Ottoman Empire (Facts-on-File, 2009) and co-editor of the upcoming volume 3 of The Cambridge History of War.

In May 2022, the QhoD project initiated the QhoD Book Talk Series with the first book presentation by Georg B. Michels from the Department of History at the University of California, Riverside.

QhoD is a two dimensional research project that, on the one hand, charts new historical research areas concerning all conceivable aspects of Habsburg-Ottoman diplomatic contacts and, on the other, innovatively applies digital humanities methods to that history. Accordingly, the QhoD Book Talk Series is designed as a venue mainly for scholars who have recently published monographs dealing with early modern and modern Habsburg-Ottoman contacts (broadly defined).

However, we also plan the series to be a platform for scholars and projects using digital humanities methods. In the end, the QhoD Book Talk Series aim to create a productive and constructive communication among scholars based on the most recent developments in the project’s research areas.
